Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a sharp and aggressive address at a rally in Kulti ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, warning of strict action against criminals and infiltrators if the Bharatiya Janata Party comes to power. He declared that after the results on May 4, those involved in violence would be “hung upside down and straightened,” while assuring that a BJP government formed on May 5 would identify and expel infiltrators. Shah also alleged that the current government was involved in multiple scams and accused it of promoting appeasement politics.
Targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Shah said the election was not just about choosing MLAs but about ending corruption and stopping what he described as efforts to make “Bhaipo” (nephew) Abhishek Banerjee the Chief Minister. He asserted that such a plan would never succeed and promised that Bengal’s Chief Minister would be “a son of the soil,” born and educated in the state. He also accused the ruling party of dynasty politics and claimed that only one individual was being promoted while others were sidelined.
Outlining policy promises, Shah said a BJP government would implement the Uniform Civil Code and ban polygamy, while ensuring women’s safety to the extent that they could step out alone even at 1 AM without fear. He pledged to dismantle the “syndicate raj,” stop illegal mining, and shut down polluting sponge iron factories. Emphasising industrial revival, he promised to redevelop the Asansol-Kulti region into a modern “iron city,” addressing concerns over economic decline in the area.
The Home Minister also announced a series of welfare and development measures, including ₹3,000 monthly assistance for women and youth, free bus travel for women, ₹21,000 support for pregnant women, 33% reservation for women, and free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat. Additional promises included ₹10 lakh assistance through an Udyam Credit Card, paddy procurement at ₹3,100 per quintal, increased farmer support to ₹9,000 annually, one lakh jobs every year, and the establishment of new AIIMS, IIT, and IIM institutions. He assured that existing welfare schemes would continue alongside new initiatives, while urging voters to support the BJP in the upcoming polls.
